HANBELL HBR-B09 is a synthetic polyol ester (POE) refrigeration oil with a measured viscosity of 175.2 cSt at 40 °C, the grade HANBELL specifies for its screw compressors on HFC refrigerants. It sits in the same viscosity class as Emkarate RL170H, BITZER BSE170, Suniso SL170 and CPI Solest 170 — the grade to specify when a compressor needs a heavier oil film than the 68 and 120 classes provide.
We supply it in 18.9 L containers, on any Incoterms 2020 term — EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DDP and every other rule — and payment is on any commonly used method, including T/T, L/C and PayPal. Send the compressor model and the oil you are replacing, and we confirm the grade against the data sheet before quoting.
HANBELL HBR-B09 is supplied on published terms: the pack size, the price terms, the payment terms and the documents are the same for every buyer, and they can be quoted without a site visit. The minimum order is deliberately left open, because it is judged case by case: the grade, the quantity, the pack size, the shipping terms and the container load all move it, so a single can and a full container load are both workable and neither is treated as the normal case. Send us the quantity, the destination port and whether your own brand goes on the container, and those three turn the table below into a firm quotation. Documents and lead time work the same way on every order: the technical data sheet and safety data sheet come with the quotation, and the certificate of analysis for the delivered batch comes with the shipment.
| Item | Terms for HBR-B09 |

Before you order: send us the compressor model and the oil you are replacing. We check the viscosity class and base oil type against the data sheet and confirm the equivalent grade before quoting — that is the same process we apply when a buyer is moving from another brand.
A lubricant order is rarely only a lubricant order. The buyer is usually solving a grade question, an import documentation question, a freight question and a packaging question at the same time — often across more than one product family. Those are the parts of the job we take on, and they are handled by the same team that quotes the oil rather than passed to a third party.
We are a manufacturer rather than a reseller, which is what makes that possible. The blending plant in Foshan, Guangdong runs at 6,000 tonnes a year and has been producing lubricants for more than ten years, so the answer to most of the questions below comes out of our own production and our own paperwork.
| What you are dealing with | What we do about it |
|---|---|
| You are not sure which grade replaces the oil you are running | Send the compressor or unit model, the refrigerant and the oil being replaced. We confirm the equivalent grade and the changeover procedure before you order, and we put the confirmation in writing so it can be checked against the specification. |
| You need a grade that is not a catalogue item | We formulate in-house. Ester base oils and additive packages are produced at our own plant, so a viscosity class or a property target can be matched rather than taken from whatever a distributor happens to hold in stock. |
| Your customer wants their own brand on the drum | OEM and ODM are handled end to end — container artwork, pack format and material selection — so the shipment carries your label. Private-label work is quoted as a project rather than charged as a surcharge line. |
| You are buying across several oil families | Refrigeration oils sit alongside air compressor oils, vacuum pump oils, hydraulic oils, gear oils and engine oils on the same production site. A mixed enquiry can be quoted, packed and shipped together instead of being split across suppliers. |
| Import clearance needs documentation | Every order ships with a technical data sheet, a safety data sheet and a batch certificate of analysis. Export documents — CE, certificate of origin, MSDS and the transport identification report — are issued as standard, not on request. |
| Your quality system needs independent verification | Third-party testing can be arranged on the batch you actually receive — through SGS or another accredited laboratory — and the report is issued against that batch. Where an external report is a condition of purchase, it is built into the order rather than handled afterwards. |
| Freight is the number that decides the deal | We quote against your destination port on any Incoterms 2020 term — EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DDP and every other rule — and arrange sea, land, air or express movement. Ask for the CIF or DDP figure to your port — that is the one comparable with a domestic supplier's price. |
| You want to hold stock locally instead of buying container by container | We are recruiting distributors in selected markets and offer market protection to partners who commit to a territory, with technical support and documentation supplied from the plant. |
None of this runs through a separate service department. The same technical contact stays with an account from the first grade question through to repeat orders, which is why a reorder does not start the conversation over again.
If what you need is not described here, send the application rather than the product — the unit, the refrigerant, the operating temperatures and the volume — and we will tell you whether we can make it and what it would take.
Grade confirmation comes before pricing, because a wrong viscosity class is the mistake that costs a compressor. The sequence is the same whether you are buying one can or a full container:
If you already know the grade and only need a price, send the quantity and the destination port and we will quote directly.
| Property | Typical Value |
|---|---|
| Oil type | Polyol ester (POE) |
| Kinematic viscosity at 40 °C | 175.2 cSt |
| Kinematic viscosity at 100 °C | 16.5 cSt |
| Saybolt viscosity at 100 °F | 928.2 SUS |
| Saybolt viscosity at 210 °F | 86.0 SUS |
| Viscosity index | 93 |
| Density at 15.5 °C | 7.93 lb/gal |
| Specific gravity at 15.5 °C | 0.953 |
| Flash point, Cleveland open cup | 265 °C (510 °F) |
| Fire point, Cleveland open cup | 287 °C (550 °F) |
| Pour point | -30 °C (-22 °F) |
| Dielectric strength | 46.6 kV |
These are the typical characteristics published on the HANBELL HBR-B09 product data sheet, determined by ASTM D445 (kinematic viscosity), ASTM D2161 (Saybolt viscosity), ASTM D2270 (viscosity index), ASTM D4052 (density and specific gravity), ASTM D92 (flash and fire point), ASTM D97 (pour point) and ASTM D877 (dielectric strength). Two notes on reading this table. First, this grade is widely labelled “ISO VG 170” in the trade, but 175.2 cSt at 40 °C does not fall inside an ISO 3448 viscosity band: DIN ISO 3448 defines VG 150 as 135–165 cSt and VG 220 as 198–242 cSt, and there is no VG 170 class in the standard. ISO VG 170 is therefore a trade label rather than an ISO grade number, and grades should be compared on the measured 40 °C viscosity — the same is true of the 120 class used elsewhere in this series. Second, a technical data sheet, safety data sheet and batch certificate of analysis are issued with your order, so the figures above can be checked against the delivered batch.
Viscosity class and base oil type are the two selection criteria that matter first. The table below shows where each POE grade in the HBR-B series falls, with the duty each one is specified for.
| Grade | Viscosity class | Typical duty |
|---|---|---|
| HANBELL HBR-B12 | ISO VG 32 | Centrifugal compressors |
| HANBELL HBR-B05 | ISO VG 68 | Medium and low temperature screw compressors |
| HANBELL HBR-B08 | 127.7 cSt at 40 °C | HFC screw compressor duty in air conditioning and industrial refrigeration |
| HANBELL HBR-B09 (this product) | 175.2 cSt at 40 °C | HFC screw compressor duty — the grade this page covers |
| HANBELL HBR-B04 | ISO VG 220 | Medium and high temperature screw compressors |
| HANBELL HBR-B01 | ISO VG 320 | Air-cooled and flooded screw compressors — the heaviest grade in the series |
The HBR grades differ in base stock: HBR-B03 is an alkylbenzene grade and HBR-A01 a mineral grade, so neither is interchangeable with the POE grades above. Confirm the class against the compressor manufacturer’s specification before substituting one grade for another.
If your compressor is already in service, you probably hold a data sheet for a different brand at the same viscosity class. These are the oils documented as cross-references for HBR-B09, with Qishanr QSL-170H as our own equivalent:
A cross-reference is the starting point for a specification review — confirm the final choice against the compressor manufacturer’s approved oil list for your model and refrigerant. HBR-B09 is documented as suitable for BITZER HSK/HSN, Refcomp SW, Frascold NRL and HANBELL screw compressors.
HANBELL HBR-B09 is a synthetic polyol ester (POE) oil, not a mineral oil, and that distinction decides whether the oil works at all. HFC refrigerants are not miscible with mineral oil, so a mineral charge in an R134a or R407C circuit does not travel with the refrigerant — oil collects in the evaporator and the compressor sump runs dry. POE is miscible with HFC refrigerants, so the oil circulates through the circuit and returns to the sump.
The viscosity class matters for the same practical reason. HBR-B09 is the 170 class of the HBR-B series, at 175.2 cSt at 40 °C, which puts it well above the 68 class used in medium and low temperature screw duty and below the 220 and 320 classes used in high temperature and flooded applications. Choosing a lighter oil than the compressor specification calls for thins the film at the bearings; choosing a heavier one raises the drag and the discharge temperature. The measured 40 °C viscosity, not the trade label, is the number to compare.
Mixing: oils of the same type and viscosity are compatible and can be mixed. If you do not know what is currently in the system, send us the compressor model and we will confirm the equivalent grade and the correct changeover procedure before you order.
The two supply options exist for different jobs. The original HANBELL product is the right choice where the compressor is still under warranty, where the specification names HANBELL explicitly, or where the manufacturer’s approval has to be documented. Our own QSL-170H is the same POE viscosity class, blended at our plant in Foshan, China, and it is the option that makes sense for top-up and replacement work on an out-of-warranty system where landed cost decides the order.
We supply both, so the comparison is made on your application rather than on what we happen to stock. Send the compressor model, the refrigerant and the volume, and the quote will carry both options with the same documentation package behind them.
A: HBR-B09 ships in 18.9 L containers. There is no fixed minimum order — it is confirmed per order, because it depends on the pack size, the quantity and the destination, and a single can and a full container load are both workable. In practice the quantity is rarely the only variable: the shipping terms and the container load move the figure as well, so we quote against the order rather than against a price list. Custom pack formats and private-label artwork are available as a quotation item, so if your own label has to go on the container, say so when you enquire and it is quoted as part of the project rather than added afterwards.
A: Both, and the choice is usually straightforward. We can supply the original HANBELL HBR-B09, and we also manufacture the equivalent grade ourselves: Qishanr QSL-170H, a polyol ester in the same viscosity class, produced at our blending plant in Foshan, China. Take the original where the compressor is still under warranty or where the specification names HANBELL explicitly. Take the equivalent for top-up and replacement work on a system that is out of warranty, where landed cost is the deciding factor. Send us the compressor model and the application and we will quote both.
A: We quote against your destination port on any Incoterms 2020 term — EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DDP and every other rule — and we accept any commonly used payment method, including T/T, L/C and PayPal. Three things decide the number: the quantity, the destination port and the pack size — a full pallet of 18.9 L containers prices differently from a single can, because the freight and handling change. Send those three and we will come back with a firm price rather than a range. If you are comparing us against a local distributor, ask for the CIF or DDP figure to your port: that is the comparable one, because it includes the freight that a domestic price leaves out.
A: Each order is issued with a technical data sheet, a safety data sheet and a certificate of analysis for the delivered batch, so the values on this page can be checked against the actual shipment. Export documents — CE, certificate of origin, MSDS and the transport identification report — are issued as standard rather than on request, which matters when the consignment has to clear customs on a schedule.
A: HANBELL HBR-B09 is a synthetic polyol ester (POE) refrigeration oil with a measured viscosity of 175.2 cSt at 40 °C. POE is the oil family used with HFC refrigerants because those refrigerants are not miscible with mineral oil. Note that this grade is often called “ISO VG 170” in the trade: 175.2 cSt does not fall inside an ISO 3448 viscosity band, so ISO VG 170 is a trade label rather than a standard grade number.
A: HBR-B09 is used with HFC refrigerants including R134a, R404A, R407C and R507, and the HANBELL data sheet for this grade also lists R22 among the refrigerants it is suitable for. It is documented as suitable for BITZER HSK/HSN, Refcomp SW, Frascold NRL and HANBELL screw compressors. Where a compressor maker specifies a mineral oil for an R22 system, HANBELL HBR-A01 is the mineral grade in the range.
A: Emkarate RL170H, BITZER BSE170, Suniso SL170, CPI Solest 170, Refcomp E and Frascold F-170E all sit in the same viscosity class, and our own equivalent is QSL-170H. Send us the compressor or unit model you are working on and we will confirm the equivalent grade after checking the specification.
A: Oils of the same type and viscosity can be mixed. If the existing oil type or its condition is unknown, follow the compressor manufacturer’s procedure, which normally means flushing the circuit and restoring the oil charge with the specified grade before evacuation and recharge.

This oil is manufactured and supplied by Guangzhou Qishanr Technologies Co., Ltd., trading as the brand QISHANR. The company is based in Foshan, Guangdong, adjacent to Guangzhou Port, and has been producing lubricants for more than 10 years from its own blending plant. That plant runs at an annual capacity of 6,000 tonnes, which is what allows us to hold stock on the grades we list and quote firm lead times rather than promising on behalf of a third party.
Refrigeration oils are the core of the business, but they are not the whole plant. The same lines produce general industrial lubricants, so a mixed enquiry that covers both refrigeration oils and ordinary industrial grades can be quoted, packed and shipped together instead of being split across suppliers.
This is not the full range. Specialised ester base oils and lubricant additives are produced in-house as well, which is the reason the synthetic ester grades can be specified to a target rather than bought off a shelf. If the grade you need is not listed above, send the specification or the product you are replacing and we will confirm whether we produce it.
Long-term partners get pricing that reflects a stable manufacturing base rather than a trading margin, and the same technical contact stays with the account from grade selection through to repeat orders.
Send your compressor or unit model, the refrigerant, the oil you are replacing and the quantity you need. We will confirm the grade against the HANBELL data sheet and come back with pricing, pack size and lead time.
